This 8-Foot Ballast Bypass T8 LED Tube (25-Pack) is designed for wiring directly into the fixture by “bypassing” the existing ballast. Use the existing fixture wiring, and the bypass tubes are single or double-ended, allowing easy installation. Use 8ft LED tubes with single pins in T8/T12 retrofit replacements for fluorescent shop light fixtures.
Product Description: 8-Foot Ballast Bypass T8 LED Tube
The Viribright 8-Foot Ballast Bypass T8 LED Tube is an ideal choice for installation in retrofit fixtures requiring a tube 96 inches in length. T8 8-foot LED light bulb tubes are standard in workshops, offices, warehouses, grocery stores, and similar locations. This tube is to be used without a ballast (direct wire), reducing overall energy consumption. Making the 8ft T8 tube a perfect replacement for fluorescent tube lights and occasionally strip lights. The total energy consumption of this tube is 40W while producing over 5280 lumens in 4000K, 5000K, and 6000K color temperatures. These tubes are easy to install, but it is recommended to have an experienced electrician handle the bypassing of the ballast and installation. Purchasing an FA8 lamp holder may require installation as this tube is a single-pin installation.
General Information about T8 LED Tubes
8-Foot T8 tubes are high-powered and generally manufactured in three types, although the ballast bypass version is the most common type sold in the US. These are the hybrid, the ballast bypass, and the plug-and-play. Unlike the others, the easiest to install is the plug-and-play variant. LED tube bi-pins can be easily plugged into compatible fixtures. However, it’s best to ensure that the ballast is compatible.
Compatibility details are found in the Details tab of the products page. Direct wire lamps or the ballast bypass tube require you to remove the old ballast first. Mainly, this eliminates future ballast maintenance and failure point issues.
However, the fixture may require some rewiring if it is either double-ended or single-ended. Double-ended tubes are known for directing power on either end, while single-ended ones revolve around just one side needing power. When it comes to hybrids, these are a unique combination of the other two previously mentioned.
The LED tubes on this one begin as plug-and-play, where the ballast eventually becomes unusable. When this occurs, the fixture becomes a bypass lamp. Hence, the ballast is removed, and the light is rewired to suit the new ballast.
Tips For Choosing the Right Tube
When choosing the ideal tube, it is recommended that you first check the ratings, color temperature, and certifications associated with the line. If you didn’t already know, the temperature is measured in Kelvin and represents the light’s color. Those between the 3000 and 3500 Kelvin range are ideal for creating warm areas.
In essence, they create the perfect waiting or lobby area. Tubes between 4000 and 5000 Kelvins increase visibility and significantly reduce eye strain. These are suited for warehouses, classrooms, offices, and hospitals.
The certifications and ratings on these will give a better idea of where and how T8 LED Tubes can be efficiently and safely used. Those rated as dry location tubes should only be used indoors and should not be in contact with moisture. However, caution should still be taken for 8-Foot tubes that can be used in the presence of water. As such, they should never make contact with liquids.
